Assamese Wedding
Simantika and Bikram's wedding was a celebration of Assamese heritage from the very first ritual. Held at a private lawn venue in Guwahati, the couple worked closely with their families to make sure every custom was honoured exactly as their grandparents had done it.
An open-air lawn venue was transformed with traditional Assamese motifs, from japi (bamboo hats) used as hanging décor to xorai displayed at the entrance to welcome guests, following age-old hospitality customs.
"Every elder in our family had an opinion on how things should be done — and honestly, we're grateful, because it meant nothing was missed."
The palette stayed gold and white throughout — gamosa detailing on the mandap, orchids sourced from local Assam growers, and a backdrop woven from eri silk that took the decorators nearly a week to complete.
The juroon ceremony, where the groom's family formally gifts the bride, was held a day before the wedding and set the emotional tone for the celebration. Simantika wore a golden mekhela chador passed down from her mother, and the paneethoa rituals were performed exactly as tradition dictates.
